Testing vs. remediation
Assessment focuses on identifying and evaluating a mold condition. Remediation focuses on correcting affected materials and the moisture problem that supports growth.
When an assessment may help
- The source of staining or odor is unclear
- Growth may be hidden
- The affected area may extend beyond what is visible
- A formal remediation protocol is needed
- There is disagreement about the extent of the problem
Florida licensing matters
Florida regulates mold assessors and mold remediators separately. The state also restricts the same assessor or company from performing remediation on a structure it assessed within the prior 12 months, and vice versa.
