Stop the source
Repair or isolate the leak, overflow, roof opening, or other source so water is no longer entering.
Dry quickly
EPA guidance notes that wet or damp materials dried within about 24–48 hours after a leak or spill often will not grow mold.
Do not ignore hidden materials
Cabinet bases, drywall cavities, insulation, subfloors, carpet padding, and other concealed materials may stay wet longer than visible surfaces.
