Florida's separation rule
Florida DBPR states that mold assessors and mold remediators are individually licensed. State law also restricts an assessor or the assessor's company from performing remediation on a structure it assessed within the prior 12 months, and restricts the reverse arrangement as well.
When assessment may make sense
Assessment can be useful when the source or extent is uncertain, there are competing explanations for staining or odor, or a formal remediation protocol is needed.
When remediation is the next step
When a mold condition and its scope are already established, the focus moves to containment, affected materials, cleanup, drying, and moisture correction.
